One hundred things…

Yes, I’m stealing this idea. I figure, why not?

  1. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas.
  2. My parents still live there.
  3. My hair, eyes, and freckles are all the same color reddish brown.
  4. I am left handed.
  5. Both of my siblings are/were left handed. My husband is left handed.
  6. I can put my feet behind my head.
  7. I’ve dislocated my shoulder 3 times. Not since the surgery to fix that pesky little problem though.
  8. I love chocolate. I mean LOVE. Like I don’t think I could live without it. The darker, the better.
  9. I met my husband when I was 15, he was 16.
  10. We got married when I was 21, he was 22.
  11. That was almost 7 years ago.
  12. I have two cats and a dog.
  13. My first pet ever, a kitten, was run over by my dad on a Sunday morning on the way to church. Instead of going to church, we buried the cat. We have pictures of the funeral.
  14. I lost about 30 pounds last year.
  15. I like to run (jog). I was never a runner before my brother died. But somehow it became the only thing I could do after. I could think and think and not talk to anyone. And if there were tears, people didn’t notice.
  16. I hate bananas.
  17. The first CDs I ever owned were: Tiffany and Appetite for Destruction.
  18. My favorite stupid movie of all time is Dirty Dancing. There was one summer I watched it everyday. I mean it.
  19. I am a Speech Language Pathologist. Or in real speak – a speech teacher. I particularly like working with children with Autism. I think I’m pretty good at it.
  20. My favorite vacation ever was our trip to Kauai last summer. We got to stay for 2 whole weeks. It was amazing.
  21. I can SCUBA dive.
  22. I wanted a horse for most of my childhood. I had an elaborate plan to keep one in my backyard. I even tried to get a miniature horse, I just wanted one so badly.
  23. I love to read.
  24. The first real book I can remember reading multiple times was Black Beauty. Shortly thereafter, I fell in love with Little Women. I’m still fond of both.
  25. I’m kind of allergic to the sun. I break out in this rash that is very itchy.
  26. The furthest I have ever run is 13 miles. I don’t think I could do a marathon.
  27. I am 9 years older than my sister. Once, when I was about 13 and she was about 4, we were at Target. She ran up to me yelling, “Mommy, mommy!”. You should have seen the looks on peoples faces.
  28. I wear a size 32B bra. My sister wears a 32DD. So much for equitable distribution.
  29. Did I mention that I’m a big fan of chocolate?
  30. I can’t seem to give up caffeine completely.
  31. I hate prenatal vitamins.
  32. I’m painting my guest bath a deep purple color. I want to do our bath in a deep ocean / aqua color.
  33. There was a big thunderstorm at my house last night. Our power was off for about 4 hours.
  34. I am going to work part time in the fall. I think I will be much happier for it.
  35. My favorite color is probably green.
  36. I’m a Pisces.
  37. I don’t really like my SIL very much.
  38. I love a good nap.
  39. I enjoy cooking. I like trying out new recipes.
  40. My grocery list is an Excel spreadsheet organized by sections in the store.
  41. I am (and always have been) fiercely independent from my parents. My dad kind of drives me nuts. My sister is the opposite.
  42. I hate cleaning bathrooms.
  43. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. Until I watched a surgery when I was in 9th grade and almost passed out.
  44. I still sometimes think about becoming a doctor. For people.
  45. I love the smell of books.
  46. I lived in San Francisco for 3.5 years. Sometimes I really miss it. But I missed Texas when I was there.
  47. I want to take a vacation at Christmas. Just my husband and me. NO ONE ELSE.
  48. At work this year, on two separate occasions, a snake made it’s way to my desk. After screaming, I calmly released each snake outside.
  49. As a child, I was convinced that there were creatures under my bed. I would run and catapult myself into bed. I still get a little freaked out from time to time.
  50. Jane Austen was a funny, funny woman. I wonder what her blog would have been about.
  51. I am a shameless Gilmore Girls fan.
  52. I love peanut butter and peanut butter flavored products. Specifically ice cream or milkshakes. My favorite peanut butter milkshake place is no longer making them. I don’t know where to get my fix.

  54. I don’t like talking on the phone. I avoid answering if possible.
  55. I have a recurring dream (it hasn’t really happened much lately) where I am brushing my teeth or talking to someone and I bite down and my teeth crunch and crumble and fall out of my mouth.
  56. In my other recurring dream, I am in a situation (a car accident, a fire – something like that) and I can’t get out because I can’t open my eyes to see.
  57. I own a little piano that I enjoy playing. I don’t play well.
  58. Hot chocolate is my latest chocolate obsession. I have 4 different types of “drinking” chocolate in my pantry right now. I’m in search of the best. The darkest, creamiest, chocolatiest.
  59. My husband and I got in an argument once because he thought I made the word “esplanade” up.
  60. I love the smell of summer rain.
  61. And the smell of summer cook-outs.
  62. Not the mosquitoes, though.
  63. I have yucky elbows with psoriasis on them.
  64. My parents didn’t let me watch much TV as a child. My husband thinks I was deprived – I had never even heard of many of the shows he watched.
  65. My neighbor, my brother, and I built a tree-house when I was about 8. Our parents never knew about it because it was in a cow pasture. That pasture is now an elementary school. They cut down the tree to build the school.
  66. Longhorn cattle were kept in that pasture. One time the cattle came running toward us and we had to climb a different tree to get out of their way.
  67. My mom used to get mad because I took too long to eat my ice cream for dessert. I would scrape the teensiest bit off, lick, and repeat. It took me 30-45 minutes. Not anymore.

  71. I am a huge procrastinator.
  72. Sometimes my grief is still overwhelming. I will wake in the morning with tears at the corners of my eyes. I will cry for no apparent reason. I cry when other people talk about loss. I look at each of those crosses on the side of the road intently. I know the names of the crosses near us. I will never be the same person I was before.

ants to marry. I really don’t want her to get married yet. She is 19.
  88. I want to turn back time. I want to live in the past…I want the past to happen over again.
  89. My cats’ names are Ticki and Dante. We thought Ticki was a girl…but he wasn’t. I had to come up with a name quickly. It’s from a Beverly Cleary(I think) book where the younger sibling can’t say “kitty” but says “tikky” instead.
  90. I loved the Houston Oilers. We’re the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers number 1! I had a “Luv Ya Blue” t-shirt as a child. While the Houston Texans are acceptable, there will always be a place in my heart for the Oilers.
  91. I once got to watch an almost no-hitter in person. It was an Astros game, Mike Scott was pitching. We got to the final out in the 9th inning with no hits. The batter got a hit. So it was a one-hitter.
  92. I never liked Barbie.
  93. I loved Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony though. They are making a comeback, but it’s not the same.
  94. I have small, narrow feet.
  95. I love clean sheets.
  96. I can whistle through my teeth. It’s kind of weird ’cause it doesn’t look like I’m making any sound. It can freak people out sometimes.

  1. Popping in to admit that #40 – yeah, I do that too! We have even been known to upload it into the Palm so that we can electronically mark things off as we go! What happened to pen and paper?

  2. First, I wish I could make all the pain about losing your brother go away. I’m so sorry.
Second, some thoughts about your list: 1. Dirty Dancing is by no means a stupid movie and it deserves to be watched daily. Nobody puts Baby in the corner. 2. I have no doubt you could run a marathon if you set your mind to it. 3. I too am a Gilmore Girls devotee. I want Lorelai to be real just so I can be friends with her.
