well, hmmm

I got my bloodwork results from Houston today. I suspected something might be up when I called yesterday and the response I got was that the results were in, but no one was able to tell me anything about them.

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I hope it’s not.

I tested “compound heterozygous” for the MTHFR (and yes, everytime I see that, I think “motherfucker”) mutations C677T and A1298C. Homozygous mutations (so two of them) of the C677T allele are more serious, but my understanding of this “compound heterozygous” business is that it falls 2nd on the list. However, it isn’t that uncommon.

Houston’s treatment is 5mg of folic acid per day. Dr. Google found anything from the high doses of folic acid to adding in baby aspirin, vitamins B6 and B12, and Heparin/Lovenox. I’ll do whatever I need to do.

I have an appointment on Thursday with my doctor here in Hopeville for more laminaria fun time, so I’ll ask him then for his opinion. Who knows. Will he think it’s crap? Will he think it’s serious?

All the other stuff came back fine. All of J’s tests were fine. I don’t really know what to think, yet. Anyone with insight??

  1. Sorry Mrs. Hope, never heard of it. But I hope your doctor has some insight. From your description, it doesn’t sound too serious…. I really hope you’re right.

  2. No insight for you, but I’ve always felt that getting an answer…any answer…helps in this nightmare process. It means you have a direction to go in and can find a way to work around it. I hope your doctor has some good information for you.

  3. Hey mrs. hope — I can’t help you with the insight, but I think having answers is always better than the unknown. I’ll be watching for more updates.

congrats on the new job, BTW!

  4. I’m compound heterozygous for mthfr as well. Different docs have said different treatments. I’ve pushed and received lovenox (blood thinner) upon a positive pregnancy test (like that will ever come) plus the prenatal and folgard (extra folic acid and some b vitamins). I really want the lovenox preconception, but my current doc says no.
