please stay

Dear maybe babies,

Your hopefully mother here.

I want you to know how much we want you already. We know you are here today, and we want so much for you to stay. Please stay.

We’ve got a room set aside for you. For both of you. Please stay.

We’ll hold you in wonder, we’ll be in awe at your birth. Please stay.

We’ll rock you and soothe you no matter how tired we get. Our love for you will grow as you do. Please stay.

We’ll revel in all the milestones you achieve. We’ll wonder where the time has gone. Please stay.

We’ll childproof the house and fill it with noisy toys. Please stay.

We’ll shop for school supplies and cry on your first day. Please stay.

We’ll take you to Disney World and the Grand Canyon. Please stay.

I’ll teach you to bake, and hope you like reading. Mr. Hope will convey his love of football and baseball. Please stay.

We’ll go to the ballet recitals, the piano lessons, and the soccer games. Please stay.

Adolescence might get sticky, but we’ll love you for who you are becoming, and for all the angst. Please stay.

We’ll pay for college. We’ll clap and cheer the loudest when you graduate. Please stay.

We’ll hope you’ll visit often. We’ll love it when you call. Please stay.

We’ll dream for your happiness, whatever that may be. We’ll hope you’ll have children of your own. Please stay.

You’re here with us now, we love you already, and we want you to stay. Please stay.

With a heart full of love and hope,
Mrs. Hope

  18. This post reminds me of Elton John’s song “Blessed.” (If you haven’t heard it go get it immediately – it’s absolutely beautiful.) I sang it to my embryos during the 2ww, then I sang it to the baby while I was pregnant.

    Blessed

Hey you, you’re a child in my head
    You haven’t walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you’ll be blessed

    I know you’re still just a dream
    your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I’ve ever seen
    Anyway you’ll be blessed

    And you, you’ll be blessed
    You’ll have the best
    I promise you that
I’ll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
    You’ll be blessed

I need you before I’m too old
    To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
    And know that you’re blessed

  19. Wow! All I can say is “Please stay”. Awesome post Mrs. Hope.

  20. Let’s just say this – if those embryos have ears, there is no way they are going anywhere – how could they after hearing such a heartfelt promise from their mother?
