I said I had lots of posts to write. I do. But I sit here in my hotel room with a view of the Caribbean with an exhausted husband and daughter and can’t help but think how lucky we are.

We’ve had a little too much sun. A little too much to drink. We’ve made some interesting acquaintances.

And infertility doesn’t matter here. We have BabyHope. The question everyone asks is, “How old?” and everyone talks about how beautiful she is. No one asks how she was conceived. No one knows how much hurt the past years contain. Or how much healing in the nearly seven months since her birth.

It does make me wonder about stories. Everyone has one. It makes me want to know what stories, joyful or tragic, lurk behind the smiles at the pool.

  1. You traveled with BabyHope!! You traveled to the Caribbean with a baby!! How did that go? How did she do? How was she affected?

  2. I’m so glad you guys took a vacation. That is wonderful. Isn’t funny how infertility changes our outlook on so many things, not just babies/parenthood!? Congrats on 10 years! That’s terrific.

  3. I often sit in various places and “people watch.” I make up stories about their life. Sometimes I hope I am right, sometimes I hope I am wrong!!
We all have our battle scars, some deeper than others.

  4. Glad you enjoyed your vacation. Bet it was fabulous!
I’m glad that IF doesn’t matter there. However, just wait until BabyHope is a year or older and everyone asks, “Is she your only? When will you have another?” Like a knife to my heart all over again…
